We Went Home for Christmas!

Here are some pictures of our trip home for Christmas! Daniel and my parents live in the same town so we had a week filled with family fun! I got a Canon camera for a gift so the photo quality on the blog should be much better in the following months.

It was extra special because we had a white Christmas... a rarity in Texas!
 My family's Christmas tree!

Freebie Friday: Everything is a Miracle - Albert Einstein Quote

This week flew by! It seems like it was just Friday yesterday. I hope everyone had a great week!

This "Freebie Friday" printable features a quote from Albert Einstein. I love his quotes on faith and life.

This printable is such a great reminder to keep around - either as a wall decoration, on a bulletin board, or as your phone or computer background.

And it matches perfectly with this printable in my Etsy shop (also an Einstein quote!).

I hope you love it! And please feel free to Pin it to share with your friends and family!

DIY: Glittered Mason Jars with Chalkboard Tops

Today's DIY project is perfect for giving home baked goods (or anything else that will fit in a Mason jar) all year round... and it's super sparkly which makes any gift better! Check out the finished project below!
DIY Glitter Chalkboard mason jars Tutorial by PrintableWisdom
Glittery right?

Now that you know how adorably these jars are going to turn out, lets get started!

First we need supplies:
Mason jars (I'm using the quilted patterned jars but any Mason jar will work)
Mod Podge (I'm using glossy)
Glitter - any color you choose, I'm using bright gold (a giant tub!)
Masking tape
Paint brush(es)
Chalkboard paint (*not shown*)

Follow these steps:
1. Tape around the Mason jar at whatever level you want your glitter to go to. I taped mine about 3/4 of the way up the jar.
2. Coat your Mason jar with Mod Podge. You want a layer that's not too thin, but not in huge globs either - just a nice even coat.
3. Sprinkle glitter all over your Mason jar (I did this over a bowl so I could collect the glitter instead of my floor collecting it!). Shake off the excess
4. Peel off the tape and allow the jars to dry upside down (so you don't mess up the bottom edges with glitter)
5. Paint the tops of the Mason jars (just the flat insert portion) with chalkboard paint. Make sure to follow the directions on the jar. I did 3 layers 1 hour apart each and let the lids sit overnight.

After letting your jars and lids dry, it's time to assemble them! Put your treats or gifts inside, seal the lid, and tie on a cute tag!
I'm using my "Secret Recipe" tags from PrintableWisdom. You can find them in my Etsy store - they are customized with the recipe name of your choice!

Don't forget to write the name of the gift-ee on your chalkboard lid!

Aren't these the sparkliest Mason jars you've ever seen? What are you planning to put in yours? Let me know in the comments!

And I'd love for you to pin one of the pictures in this tutorial to share with your friends and family!

New PrintableWisdom Promotional Video!

I finally got around to creating a promotional video for my PrintableWisdom Etsy shop! The idea had been floating around in my head for awhile so it's great to have it actually done. I really enjoy creating book trailers for authors (you can see some of them by clicking on the "Book Trailers" tab at the top of the blog), and thought I could try the same thing to promote my Etsy shop.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

Come back tomorrow for a great Treasury Tuesday post - featuring some great Etsy finds with a rustic, woodland Christmas theme!

Happy Monday!

It's Friday... and that means I'm done with my final exams for med school (yay!) and it's "Freebie Friday"! I don't know if this day could get any better!

Now that I don't have studying looming over my head, I am ready to really get into the Christmas spirit. Here is a fun printable to hang up in your home (or put on your desk, or use as your computer/phone background, or just about anything else you can think of!)

DIY: Christmas card wrap-around address labels + Free download!

This year, I used one of my PrintableWisdom Christmas card designs as our family Christmas card! I ordered the cards from ProDigital photos... and they turned out amazing! How cute is Pye in her Santa hat?!

So now that I had some super cute cards... I had to have cute labels to spice up the plain old white envelopes. And boy did I ever spice them up; take a look below!

First, you'll need your supplies:
Free wrap-around address labels for Christmas - from PrintableWisdom

  • Christmas cards and envelopes
  • A label sheet - full page Post-It notes work best for this (I'm using shipping labels, but that makes it a lot harder... learn from my mistake and use the Post-It notes!)
  • Craft glue
  • Glitter - I ended up using my gold glitter, but you can see all the colors I had to work with here! I'll have to think up a new DIY project for all my extra glitter!
  • Scissors
  • PDF file of your labels (download at the end of the tutorial!!)
Now print out your labels on the full page Post-It (yours won't have the gap in the middle... remember what I said about using full sheet Post-Its instead of mailing labels? That's why!) :)
If you download the Word file (via GoogleDocs), you can type in your addresses before printing. If you download the JPEG (click on the picture at the end of the post) you will now need to write in your addresses.

Now the fun part... glitter! Dab just a tiny bit of the glue on top of the stars (I used the tip of my finger to make sure there wasn't just a big glob that would take forever to dry). You're going for a nice thin layer to of glue to sprinkle the glitter onto. Shake off the excess and admire your handiwork! Don't those trees look awesome now?

The next step is to cut out all your tags. They'll look like this when you're done and the label backing is still attached to the back so you can peel it off just like a sticker!

I just had to show you how cute our cards looked with the tags... how very coordinated! The next step is to stuff your envelopes and put the tags on! Make sure the "from" is on the back and the "to" is on the front! I asked my father-in-law if these were Post Office "compliant" (he's a USPS mail carrier) and he gave them the seal of approval!

They'll look like this when you're done!

And now, you can make your very own wrap around labels!

Custom Home Portraits - Portfolio!

I wanted to take a few minutes today to share my brand new custom home portrait portfolio with y'all! I've been getting a LOT of home portrait orders (I think because they make such great gifts!) so I've really been able to add to my portfolio.

Here's a link to my listing on Etsy: Home Portraits

Since I can only show five sample pictures on my Etsy listing, I thought I'd make a fun digital sample "book" to share with everyone! Enjoy!

You can click on this flip book to view the portraits in full screen mode, or click the escape button to go back to looking at it embedded on the blog... I recommend full screen viewing so you can see all the fun details!

Let me know what you think!

Happy Tuesday!

Liebster Award!

What a great surprise I got today! Kelly from Blart (the blog about art... and other stuff) nominated my blog for a Liebster award! How awesome is that?!

So what is the Liebster award?
Bloggers nominate other bloggers with 200 or less followers. Liebster means "favorite" in German so everyone can promote their favorite blogs... or maybe find a new one! If you are nominated, you just have to follow the rules (below!) and nominate 11 more people to keep the fun going!

Liebster Award

Rules for nominees:
1. List 11 facts about yourself.
2. Answer the 11 questions given to you.
3. Create 11 new questions for the bloggers you nominate for the award.
4. Choose 11 bloggers with 200 or less followers to nominate.
5. Go to each bloggers page and let them know about the award.
6. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.

11 Facts About Me:
1. I married my high school sweetheart (1 and a half years ago!)
2. I have a degree in Molecular & Cell Biology
3. I never want to leave Texas!
4. The Walking Dead is my very favorite TV show
5. I'm going to Las Vegas for New Years... super excited!
6. I love running my Etsy shop and log in WAY more times a day than I should! ;)
7. I think Pinterest is the greatest thing ever - so many DIY projects, so little time!
8. The Gap is my favorite place to shop
9. I'm about to finish up my preclinical classes for medical school and start clinics in January!
10. I have two little sisters - Emily and Hailey - they are awesome!
11. I made Christmas cards this year for my husband and myself, my parents, AND my inlaws!

Questions from Kelly at Blart:

1. Where do you live?
Houston, Texas
2. How much time do you spend blogging?
Not as much as I'd like! I try to post at least 3-4 times a week though, and to never forget Freebie Friday!!

3. If you could pick one thing to eat as much as you want and not gain weight what would it be? Cupcakes - we have this great little cupcake shop in Houston that sells mini cupcakes in all kinds of flavors. I try to stay away but it's hard!

4. What is your biggest dream?
To finish medical school and be a small town pediatrician... with a big family!

5. What is something not many people know about you?
My mom used to take my sisters and me antique shopping all the time. To help us enjoy it more, she let each of us start collecting something . That way we'd search around for our treasures instead of begging to leave! I collected antique bride and groom cake toppers!

6. What is your favorite movie?
Gone with the Wind

7. What was the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
Not funny, but it was really coincidental and strange! A customer recently ordered from my Etsy shop who also lived in the same small town I grew up in - it's a small world!

8. Do you have any pets?
Two! Bonnie is a Yorkie; she's four and adorable! Pye is a cat; she's two and quite a character! Here they are smiling for the camera! :)

9. What is your favorite hobby?
Reading! I love Jodi Picoult books. My favorite is "My Sister's Keeper"

10. Type the first word that comes to your mind
Genetics (I have a test over it tomorrow! Wish me luck!)

11. What is your favorite number and why?
3 - not sure! It always just seemed like a good number of anything - not too much and not too little!

And the new nominees (in no particular order)...!

Freebie Friday: Matthew 6:34 Bible Verse Printable

This free Friday printable features one of my favorite verses of scripture. And it is very applicable right now as I'm studying for my medical school finals next week. It's so important to focus on the gift of each day we're given, and not to waste it by worrying about what's coming next!
"Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Matthew 6:34
